Announcements, which must be dated and contain contact information, can be mailed to the Sports Department, P.O. Box 1940, Panama City, FL 32402, faxed to the Sports Department at 747-5097 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Events that require entry fees or registration costs that don’t benefit charities or go toward the operating expenses of youth leagues or school booster clubs, or toward the purchase of trophies and awards are not eligible, and must run as an advertisement.
Arnold swimming team
The Arnold High School swim and dive team needs girls. Practices already has started for the season and are held Monday-Friday from 3:45-5:45 p.m. for swimmers and 5:30-7:30 p.m. for divers. The season will conclude by Nov. 14. Location is the Frank Brown Park Aquatic Center. Any current or new students at Arnold interested in participating can call Coach Mike at 628-6636.
Mothers’ Monday Night Football
The fourth annual Mothers’ Monday Night Football to enhance the football knowledge of mothers, grandmothers, aunts and female guardians will be held 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18 in the Bay High School Library. There will be giveaways, food and dessert and child care provided by football players from Bay. Bay head coach Jimmy Longerbeam will provide the instruction. Education golf fundraiser
The Bay Education Foundation, a non-profit support foundation for Bay District Schools, will host the fifth annual Golf FORE Education Golf Tournament on Aug. 23 at the Panama Country Club. The event begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. All proceeds are invested into the foundation’s Take Stock in Children scholarship program, which prepares financially at-risk students for college and technical schools. Panhandle Gator Club
The Panhandle Gator Club will hold its annual Gathering of Gators on Saturday, Aug 23, at The Rusty Anchor Saloon (Boardwalk Beach Resort). Social Hour is 5 p.m. Guest speaker is Larry Vettel of WRUF/FoxSports/Sun Sports who will speak at 6 p.m. All area Gator alumni, fans, friends and visitors are invited. Midnight Chase 5K
The 35th annual Midnight Chase 5K and ½-mile Fun Run will be Aug. 30. Registration is 10:30 p.m. and the race will start in the parking lot of the former K-Mart at the west end of Hathaway Bridge. Commodore baseball hitting camp
Gulf Coast will host a baseball hitting camp at Bill Frazier Field for players ages 8-18 in two sessions. The first session will be on each Monday starting Sept. 8 and continuing through Oct. 27. The second session will take place on each Wednesday starting Sept. 10 and ending Oct. 29. The time for each session is from 7 to 8 p.m. and each costs $200 per player. Soccer goalkeeper camp
All-Pro Soccer, in conjunction with Callaway Youth Soccer, will be holding a middle school/high school preseason goalkeeper camp over four sessions from Thursday, Oct. 2 to Saturday, Oct. 4. There will be two levels of instruction, one for little or no previous training and a second group for those players with previous positional training. Coaches Gary Hindley of Port St Joe and Coach Don Maples of Knoxville, Tenn., will instruct. Only 30 keepers will be registered. The sessions will be held at the Callaway Sports Comples, off State 22. Registration for Callaway youth baseball (ages 3-14) Fall Ball season began Saturday, Aug. 2, and will continue each Saturday during the month at the Callaway Sports Complex off State 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. upstairs in the main concessions building.
