SANTA ROSA BEACH — Bozeman was finally on the good end of a district final against Liberty County.
Brandon Suttles carried a no-hitter through six innings and the Bucks defeated the Bulldogs 4-1 for the District 4-1A championship in the game played at South Walton on Friday. It was Bozeman’s first district title since 2011 with back-to-back final losses against Liberty County in 2012 and 2013, including being no-hit in each defeat.
Suttles gave up the no-hitter with no outs in the seventh and Liberty County scored its lone run unearned. Suttles had five strikeouts and one walk while giving up one hit in improving to 5-0.
“It was big for us and since we hadn’t won since 2011 we weren’t taking it for granted,” Bozeman coach Jeff Patton said. “You want that gold-plated trophy. Liberty County is so tough every time we play and it was nice to see our guys celebrate with their friends and family for a change.”
Alec Aleywine was 2 for 3 with an RBI in the sixth inning to lead the Bucks to their fourth district crown in eight seasons. Bubba Thompson doubled in Nicky Agosto in the first and pinch runners Logan Foster and Tanner Taylor scored on errors for Bozeman (19-7).
