West Gadsden 61, Cottondale 39
GREENSBORO — Not this time.
A Cottondale team that had survived an eight-game losing streak to produce a four-game run in the playoffs saw it end at West Gadsden.
The Panthers, 23-8, reversed a one-point loss to the Hornets in January to claim the Region 2-1A boys basketball championship with a convincing victory.
Cottondale ended 14-15. West Gadsden will play in the 1A Final Four on Tuesday in Lakeland.
The Hornets trailed by eight at halftime, and were within 43-30 after three quarters before the Panthers pulled away.
Jerodd Blount had 21 points and D.J. Roulhac nine for Cottondale. Marquis Brown had 18 points for West Gadsden and Parick Gilyard 11 as Cottondale held leading scorer Brandon Shingles scoreless in the first half. He finished with 10 points.
“I’m just proud of the kids, man,” Cottondale coach Chris Obert said. “They played with a lot of toughness and heart and were able to pull out a lot of close games.
“West Gadsden was the better team tonight. Our kids played hard and put it out there on the floor.”
