Area rounder: PSJ edges Blountstown; Liberty, Vernon victorious

PORT ST. JOE — Port St. Joe grinded out a narrow 20-19 victory over Blountstown in its kickoff classic with a successful goal-line stand inside the Tiger Sharks’ 2-yard line in the game’s final seconds.

Blountstown faced a first-and-goal situation at the PSJ 2, but the host Tiger Sharks came up with four stops defensively to preserve the win.

PSJ led 20-2 at halftime after the two teams competed with their varsity rosters for two quarters. The teams used second-stringers in the third quarter and JV players in the final quarter.

No other details were reported.

PSJ opens the season next Friday at home against Wewahitchka. Blountstown hosts Walton.

BRISTOL — Liberty County carried a 12-point lead into the locker room at halftime and pulled away in the second half for the preseason win.
