FORT WALTON BEACH — The Rutherford Rams saved the best for the last.
The Rams upset district rival Choctawhatchee 1-0 in boys soccer Wednesday night to close out the first half of the season.
Eric Riley scored a second half goal on an assist by Javen Threatt to hand Choctaw (4-1) its first district loss.
The Rams (5-3-3 overall, 3-2 in the district) resume the season on Jan. 8 at Arnold.
Rutherford keeper Andrew Mask had nine saves for the shutout.
“Andrew made a couple of phenomenal saves at the end of the game,” Rutherford coach Mike Brown said.

SAND HILLS — Bozeman’s Christian Byrd scored 22 points and Ryan Peltonen had 15 as the Bucks beat Chipley.
The Bozeman junior varsity hosts Blountstown Jan. 8 at 4 p.m.
Port St. Joe 1, North Bay Haven 0
PORT ST. JOE — An unassisted second-half goal by junior forward Cat Robles enabled the Tiger Sharks to move to 6-3-1. Keeper Chrisitan Laine fashioned her fourth shutout of the season with four saves to lower her goals-against average to 0.92.
Port St. Joe is idle until Jan. 8 when it plays at Baker.

PORT ST. JOE — Sophomore Marcel Duarte’s third hat trick of the season propelled the Tiger Shars, 8-1-1 overall. Following eighth-grader Jacob Lacour’s goal, Duarte scored three goals in succession for Port St. Joe and has 19 on the season. Drew Lacour added a penalty kick for the Sharks and also had an assist.
Port St. Joe plays its final District 1-1A regular-season game at Baker on Jan. 8.
