GULF BREEZE — Rutherford had ample chances to score, but the Rams couldn’t convert in a 2-0 loss to Gulf Breeze in the Region 1-3A prep boys soccer quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Gulf Breeze scored less than two minutes into the match and then capped the tally near the end of the first half. Rutherford had 11 shots with seven of those on target. Rams coach Michael Brown said there were strong rallies late, but Rutherford was unable to mount a comeback.
“It was a really good game, extremely tight throughout,” Brown said. “We had a lot of good opportunities on our side we just found the keeper more than the back of the net.”
Rutherford goalkeeper Andrew Mask had eight saves. The Rams finished the season 8-6-4.
