Prep (1/25): Arnold wins county; Bucks, Rams have two titles

SPRINGFIELD — Arnold defeated host Rutherford for the team title and secured nine individual first-place finishes in the annual Bay County wrestling championship Saturday at the Ram House.

The Marlins finished the dual-match tournament with a 5-0 mark. Rutherford was second at 4-1 with its only defeat to Arnold.

Mosley (3-2) was third followed by Bay (2-3), North Bay Haven (1-4) and Bozeman (0-5). The Buccaneers earned their first dual victory over the Bucks while competing in only their second event of the season.

Arnold’s Garrett Jones (113-pound weight class), Richie McClanahan (120), Brock Carlan (126), Paul Patterson (132), Stephen Benedict (145), Chase Lopanek (160), Mike Harris (182), Randy Koscak (195) and Mike Mosley (220) were individual county champions. Bozeman’s D.J. Hanson (106) and John Kenney (138), Rutherford’s Michael Lee (171) and Kekoa Haina-Scott (heavyweight) and Mosley’s Forrest Lang (152) also won county championships. Individual crowns were determined by the best record after five duals.

Arnold, Bay, Bozeman and Rutherford will compete in the District 1-1A tournament at Wewahitchka on Saturday. Mosley competes in District 1-2A at Choctawhatchee also Saturday.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Cordale Morris led Arnold with 14 points, as the Marlins fell on a last-second shot. Cody Harris added 10 points for the Marlins (6-14, 0-8 District 1-5A), who host Tallahassee North Florida Christian on Monday. Arnold won the junior varsity game 72-65. Josh Langford scored 19 and Damani Flanagain and Tommy Nguyen each 17 for the Marlins (11-6).

Rutherford 52, Graceville 48

GRACEVILLE — Josh Wade scored 20 points to lead the Rams, who improved to 19-2. Rutherford hosts Port St. Joe on Tuesday.

Port St. Joe 56, Liberty County 55

BRISTOL — T.J. Williams scored 33 and Natrone Lee 17 while adding eight rebounds and six assists for Port St. Joe (11-11, 5-5 District 4-1A). The Tiger Sharks are at Rutherford on Tuesday.

North Bay Haven 65, Poplar Springs 39

POPLAR SPRINGS — David Jones scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead North Bay Haven, while Ethan Farris had 16 points and five assists and Jack Hayes 16 points for the Buccaneers (11-12), who host Altha on Monday.

Chipley 58, Mosley 38

CHIPLEY — Trent Forrest scored 13 points and Justin Campbell 10 for Chipley (15-2), which hosts Crestview on Monday.

Altha 48, Cottondale 36

ALTHA — Art Platts scored 16 and PJ Iler and Zac Morris nine apiece for Altha.
