Bay blasts Bozeman for softball victory

PANAMA CITY — Bay spotted Bozeman a lead with two errors and a run on Thursday. The Bucks gave back in multiples of four and 16.

Bozeman carried an early lead against its third straight opponent, but eight errors stoked the homestanding Tornadoes to a 16-1 win in a softball game shortened to four innings by the run rule. Bay also tallied seven hits in improving to 3-0, while Bozeman dropped to 0-3.

Emily Sowell tossed a truncated no-hitter for Bay with four strikeouts. Bozeman had two baserunners, both coming in the first inning when Bay couldn’t field balls on the game’s initial two batters. Becca Hall and Hannah Redding reached on errors and the former scored on Nicole Migliori’s ground out.

That gave Bozeman a 1-0 advantage. The Bucks had larger leads in excess of eight runs in two earlier games, but they were powerless against what was to come on Thursday.

Ashley Beason’s single in the first plated Angelica Mathes, who scored four runs for Bay, to tie the game 1-1 after one inning against losing pitcher Rosie Red. Mathes also scored in the second inning, when Bozeman committed four errors and turned a tie game into a 7-1 Bay lead. Bay sent 11 batters to the plate and could have done more damage, but Bozeman ended the threat with a strikeout-tag out double play.

Sowell retired Bozeman in order in each of the last three innings. Bay added four runs in the third to move ahead 11-1. The Tornadoes capped the game with one out in the fifth on Jada Kennedy’s single to score Taylor Beason.

Kennedy joined Ashley Beason as Tornadoes with multiple hits. Sierra Dinkins doubled and scored three runs and Sierra Kennedy, MacKenzie Wolffer and Haley Melnik each scored twice.
